Audition Form: Hello, Dolly!

Thank you for your interest in auditioning for Duck Creek Players’ Hello, Dolly!

This production is open to auditioners ages 18 and above.

Hello, Dolly! is a beloved musical classic based on Thornton Wilder’s The Matchmaker.  Dolly Gallagher Levi arranges a plethora of things for others, including marriages, while secretly seeking a match of her own.  This humorous, energetic, and sometimes chaotic tale is sure to please audiences of all ages.

Please note there are two forms that must be completed to audition:

  1. General Audition Sign-Up Form – This reserves your audition slot and collects basic contact info.

  2. Additional Required Information Form – This includes important additional information.

Both forms must be completed to receive your audition time and materials.

AUDITIONS:

Date: June 14th
Time: Auditions begin at 1:00 PM
Location: Elwood Opera House
Who Can Audition: This production is open to auditioners ages 18 and above.
Experience Needed: None! All levels welcome.

What to prepare:

  • Vocal Audition Piece: Prepare 16 bars / 30 seconds of a song.  Please no more than 1minute of a song.  NO ACCOMPANIST will be provided.  Please bring a music track.  A Bluetooth speaker will be provided.  This is your time to show off!

  • Dance Audition Piece: Auditions will include a short dance portion. Two options are available according to activity level / role you desire. A video clip will be emailed to you after the audition forms are completed, a dance level is chose, and you have confirmed your audition timeslot. Please wear clothes and shoes that allow for safe range of movement for  auditions.

    • Advanced:  This combo is for those who are interested in a lead role.  This combo will be more challenging and energetic. 

    • Basic:  This combo is for those open to an ensemble role. 

Rehearsals:

  • Rehearsals will be Sundays 1:30pm-4:30pm; Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:30pm-9:00pm

  • Rehearsals will be part / scene specific – meaning not all characters will be called for all rehearsals. 1st Rehearsal is June 16 for a Read Through

Performances:

Performances are September 16, 17, 18, 19.  Tech Week is September 12-15.  Attendance is required for ALL Tech and Performances

FINALLY, if you state on your AUDITION APPLICATION that you would be willing to accept any role, please keep your word. If you have a preferred role, please list it.  However, withdrawing from a production after the cast list has been announced will make it difficult for you to be cast in future productions.  Thanks for understanding!

Character Breakdown

While characters have an age range, that does not mean that an actor needs to be that age, but that the actor could be convincing as that age while playing that character.

Mrs. Dolly Gallagher Levi—An indefatigable, meddling matchmaker of strikingly dramatic appearance; a widow in her middle years

Ernestina—A young woman in need of Dolly’s services

Ambrose Kemper—A young artist seeking to marry Ermengarde

Horace Vandergelder—Proprietor of a Hay & Feed Store in Yonkers, New York, and a client of Dolly’s.  A widower of some means.

Ermengarde—The  17-year old  niece of Horace Vandergelder

Cornelius Hackl—Vandergelder’s chief clerk, 33 years old

Barnaby Tucker—An assistant to Cornelius, 17 years old

Minnie Fay—A young woman who works in Irene Malloy’s shop

Irene Malloy—A millineress with a Hat Shop near 14th Street in New York City.  Dolly has introduced her to Mr. Vandergelder

Ensemble roles—speaking and non-speaking roles and dancers
